WORDS Have Utility, Here’s How

our brain operates like this,

Imagine the most obedient servant,

The most compliant assistant,

The most dutiful general,

That doesn’t care about how you feel, or what you wish to feel,

It responds, the second you tell it to

Your brain will hear an order, and will immediately go, retrieve what it is you asked it to retrieve, and return to you with that very thing you asked for.

Tell it to retrieve good and great things about yourself, and it will dig through your memory, experiences, and intentions, and find it.

Order good memories that generate great feelings,

you brain will without a doubt, bring it to you.

Tell it to bring up bad things that create bad feelings about yourself and, you guessed it, will bring it to the forefront, quickly.

Now, you might be thinking, “So all I have to do is think it?”

The answer is yes, BUT

Believe it or not, our brain does this MOST of the time, unconsciously.

I’ve learned this through observation, and practicing self awareness.

Your brain does this, wether or not you intentionally do it.

It’s working all the time.

It’s always listening for that order,

Now I’m sure you can think of a person, right now, who habitually gets into thoughts, of negativity, fear, or worry, and speaks it too.

Bring up anything, even if it’s good, and they’ll jump to something to worry about or negative.

“Hey, there’s this awesome steak restaurant I tried over in Santa Monica!”

”I could never drive down to Santa Monica🙁”

And you’re just like.. what.. okay..

Maybe.. ask yourself..

Are you this person?

And I’m sure you’ve met somebody else, who moves through the world, thinking acting and speaking that opposite way.

Now your words speak more directly to your “assistant(your brain)”,

Now think back and ask yourself, “how do I speak to myself?”

Even when it’s sarcastic, even when your joking, especially when you’re by yourself,

connect it to your repeated emotions, how you feel MOST of the time.

Observe how your words, push out emotional states, then how your emotional state, controls your actions

Take conscious effort and grasp, of the words you think, the things you unconsciously make your brain retrieve, and make it conscious.

When one sarcastic remark about yourself surfaces, flip the switch, scratch the record right there and consciously make your brain retrieve something great about yourself.

Of course it will feel weird, dishonest, and awkward, at first.

But create that new habit,

Through repeating it,

over and over,

and watch that negative voice, that we all have,

get really quiet.
