How Closing in the DM’s Came About
So I’ve left my secure job, to start a service closing in DM’s.
People who get tons of engagement and traffic, and not enough force to close sales, or don’t know they can turn their followers into dollars.
This process had many twists and turns that led me this clarity.
Let me preface by saying, when I came to the realization that I was going to be leaving my job and start being of service on my own, I brought it up to Bedros and he was like “Great dude! Proud of you!”
See Bedros has a triple stripe 10th Degree Black Belt in being able to love you up, and beat you up at the same exact time, it’s crazy. Hope it’s a skill I can one day develop lol.
But he gave me the big-dog shoulder nudge and goes..
“I’ll always be here to help, but just don’t go fishing in my pond. The pond is huge, theres big giant fish over there, there’s beautiful colorful fish over there, and here’s my little part of the pond I know and love”
and goes, “Rather than finding a way to compete with you, I’d rather just pay an attorney $50 grand and overwhelm your market to destroy your business.”
And I thought like - “GOTCHA.. CRYSTAL CLEAR👌🏽” *clears throat
I should know first hand, because weeks before that in one of our coaching sessions,
I asked -
“How do you look at business and competition in an industry?”
And his answer is one you should all consider really digesting,
he says “You know how they say never bring a knife to a gun fight".. I’m the type to bring a knife to a fist fight, and bring a Nuclear F#$%ing Bomb to a Gun Fight..”
“And that’s through my preparation, relentlessness, and fire I bring to battle bro”
Yeah, if you’re not operating anywhere close to that, save yourself the years and decades and don’t go into business.
My first thought of being of service, was to help those in general Marketing and Sales.
Think 4-figure/month solopreneurs trying to get to consistent 5-figure months.
I was completely convinced of that, and I’d charge around $5,000 for 3 months, essentially give you 20 dollars for giving me 5 dollars. I’m confident I can do that, BUT..
1st thing, I tell people this in my sales calls all the time, so I don’t know why I didn’t recognize it in myself..
GENERALIST’S, get paid the least in services. Just ask your Doctor.
Specialist’s and Authorities, make significantly more. That’s defined by experience, a smaller part of an industry, or “world renowned”.
If you just bought a sweet new Toyota Pick up truck, and you want to juice it up and lift it, and do all the extra cool shit on it (not a truck guy)
and you had the option to bring it to the General Mechanic in your town,
versus the cool shop, with 1 guy who posts all over social media about his love for Toyota Pick up trucks, and how he’s only touched Toyota’s for the past 10 years.. (may or may not be one of my filipino cousins)
You’d probably go with the latter, and guess what.. You’d probably be willing to pay more right?
2nd thing, I did NOT want to do “bad” business with Bedros to ANY degree
Bad business, defined by fishing anywhere near his pond..
And no matter how I wanted to package it, it still felt as though I’d be trying to compete with him..
Fast forward to my last day of work, I’d been stewing this around my head the past couple days..
And I knew I’d need to hit the ground running to ensure i had a plan for how to make money in the future.
A good friend and absolute badass of a dude, Isaac pulls me aside and goes “You need to do DM closing”.. And I reply “Tell me more..”
We go for a walk and talk about it, he knows what’s been going on.
And says “Dude, the perfect solution for this, the COMPLIMENTARY business you can start is closing in peoples DM’s.. I’ve literally seen you turn a DM into $15,000, why aren’t you already doing this?”
And I had the realization (Thank you Isaac♥️),
A COMPLIMENTING not COMPETING business, would be that. I can scale to a handful of clients, and when that reaches capacity, I can hire and train a team of closers, I can set up a Starting Fee to get to know the business, social strategy, the front facing entrepreneur who’ll be delivering the deliverables, and take 20% commission for sales I produce, I can operate just within cash injection to the business.
If this is something you’ve considered, my advice would be to -
Carve out a service your boss or previous company would be HAPPY to refer his or her friends to.
And minutes after having that realization, my brain is spinning with ideas of implementation and how i’ll promote myself.. Byron pulls me into him and Bedros’ coaching session and off starts the conversation read in my last blog..
“Have you thought of how you’re gonna make money in the future?”
“I have” i replied..
And the rest is history..
So a little background on why this is my carved out little piece, I did over $900,000 in sales in under two years, just via DM’s. Taking engagements, turning them into applicants of our various programs, and applicants into paying customers.
When Bedros brought me on board in early 2021, he mentioned how after work he’d drive up to the gas station and respond to all the DM’s and texts from the day, because he wanted to be fully present with his wife and kids and not be on his phone at the dinner table.
He talked about how he’d be so physically and mentally exhausted that right after he’d send off his last text and put his phone on airplane mode, he’d look up and completely forget where he was, and be stuck for a couple minutes before realizing he had to go up the hill to get home.
When Isaac was helping me lay all of this out, I was reminded of that conversation.
There’s many out there, who have this problem, a good problem to have, but a problem nonetheless, with a guy like me at the heart of that solution.
