How To Look At Leverage đŸ”§đŸ”©

The topic of leverage has been at the top of my mind for the past couple months or so..

How do we define leverage and how can we utilize it?

lev·er·age

/ˈlev(ə)rij,ˈlēv(ə)rij/

noun

  1. 1.

the exertion of force by means of a lever or an object used in the manner of a lever.

The Lever or the Wrench! That’s your skill set, habits, and environment.

The bolt, is the outcome.

The act of tightening the bolt, is the work, tension and pressure you apply towards your desired outcome.

If we want to tighten the bolt, we simply turn the wrench. Simple right?

If you tried to tighten the bolt with a smaller wrench, how would it effect the work required to tighten the bolt?

It’d be a lot harder to tighten.

If we increased the size of the wrench (created a bigger lever), the act of tightening would be brought to little, or no effort at all.

So how can you increase your leverage, to produce the same desired outcome?

Let’s take your job, you’ve been tightening the bolt for months, maybe years.

It’s produced a similar outcome (Income)..

Now think, what ways can you work the same amount of hours, use your same skillset, exert the same amount of energy and stress, and achieve the same outcome?

How can you increase output without increasing input?

For me, I was selling and closing deals, doing content creation for 3 Instagram pages for 9 hours a day.

If I wanted to expand and increase my output, while maintaining input,

I’d need to find a way to sell for more people, replicate my skillset in others, and build a team to produce the desired output (Sales) for more and more people.

With which time, energy and effort levels would stay around the same as me selling for only 1 entrepreneur.

If you’re a nurse, if you’re a trainer, a sales person, think of what leverage you can create to maximize your output.

3 most common leverage points :

  • Labor

Utilizing more people to take on tasks you’re currently doing to free up time to do more impactful, profitable, higher skilled tasks.

  • Money, or Capital

Using OPM “Other People’s Money” to invest in something you couldn’t purchase with your own money, with the intention of gaining a return.

  • Reach

Sure you knock door to door telling people about your business, or you can use the ol’ Instagram machine, shout from the mountain tops FOR FREE, and get ears and eyes to hear and see what you’ve got to say.
