Make It Easy To Buy You

The other week I was going to book a haircut with my barber..

And I did the usual..

Texted him “hey can you cut me this week?”

And he got back to me with “Book me through my app bro”

Something dawned on me..

So let’s unpack this.

What was a frustrating experience, turned into insight for myself and I’m wanting to share this with you today.

There I was, I replied “Awesome will do👊🏽“

Here were the steps;

Download the app

Create an account through Google or Facebook

Confirm my email

Choose whether I’m a barber looking for clients or client looking for a barber

Share my location for local barbers

Search his name to find his account

Select time in his schedule

Choose my service

Agree to terms and conditions

And make the payment ahead of time..

NOW..

That’s how it’s supposed to go,

What happened was the app glitches and restarts

When the location popped up hundreds of places filled my screen

I swiped through 10+ Barber shops

I swiped through 30+ Barbers with his name

Search feature sucked

Couldn’t decide what my actual service was

Even if the process went smoothly, do you think I would’ve kept interest through all of those steps?

With every step, the value of making this appointment went down further and further until making that happen was more of a hassle than an urgent need.

Now I understand my barbers thinking,

If I have this app, clients will take me more serious, it’ll do my calendar for me, I’ll be the premium service in the industry.

It sounds correct in the mind of the barber.

BUT..

It couldn’t be further from the truth.

Doing this will make your client look for somebody they can either pay more, to be booked, or find a barber who’s half as good who will say “Sure I’ll take you tomorrow at 3pm, sound good?”

The truth is, your clients your customers want to act on impulse.
Your job is to create FOMO

Your job is to speak to their fears frustrations and doubts,

Your job is to show up as the solution.

There’s a sales technique called the “Red Velvet Ropes”. If you’ve ever been to Vegas you’ll see the long lines into the clubs..

Only to wait in line, to get in the club with space everywhere, open tables, an open dance floor and you’re like sheesh what was that line for??
That’s to create the desire through scarcity, people want what they can’t have. it peaks curiosity right? If there was no line you’d walk right past it, but now seeing the line you’re like “Huh.. what’s going on over there?”

But don’t for a second mistake putting up red-velvet ropes, with making your sales process long as hell.

Restrict access earnestly, be sold out.

Don’t put obstacles in the way of your customers, to jump over hurdles, to squeeze through hula hoops, just to buy you.

Have a concise call to action.

In your business, make yourself irresistible, make yourself easy to buy.

Watch your sales explode.
