The Goal>Success Paradox
I came to a realization studying two specific brains on our planet.. and I realized there’s a paradox we can all adapt when it comes to our goals and levels of success.
Some out there say to extend the time horizon of our goals, play the long-ER game, and it’ll be the difference between millions, and billions.
Most of us are thinking in 10-15 years, and that’s great.
Some think in terms of 20-30 years, and that’s great.
Very few, like Walter O’ Brien and Elon Musk think in 80-100 years, and that’s amazing.
Elon Musk is trying to solve humanity not being a multi-planetary species, he’s working towards a goal he may not even see the pay off for.
If he died tomorrow, Space X would continue towards the goal.
Someone you may not have heard of, is Walter O’ Brien. Somebody you might not find many things about, because he’s government protected. Let me give the Cliff-notes
IQ of 197, Einstein for reference was a 160.
Self taught coder at age 9.
Hacked into NASA at age 13.
Developed the software that led to the capture of The Boston Bomber’s.
Executive Produced the show Scorpion, that went on to 4 seasons bringing in 26 million viewers in Season 1.
The last fact there, is what we’re talking about. If you asked him, he’d tell you the goal of the show is to attract smart kids and let them know it’s cool to be smart.
As he’d put, “High IQ individuals typically have low EQ (Emotional Quotient). They’re anti-social. Leaving them to be introverted, quiet, and hard to reach.
But he thought if he could broadcast to those people and serve as a beacon for them, he might attract the next generation of future geniuses, one of them maybe being the next Elon Musk.
As you can see, his goals are for the NEXT generation. The payout of his goals might not be seen in his lifetime.
Here’s the realization I came to, what do both of these men have in common?
Even though their goals are far away, they’re ironically two of the wealthiest people RIGHT NOW.
Making the “long goal” actually one of the ways to be wealthy NOW.
Something to think of.. If we set out for goals that we won’t see for a very long time, others, the world, the universe will aid you with resources to ensure you lead the charge.
The only counterpoint I can imagine, is that we can fall to not taking action day to day, because our goals are “20 years away”..
“Rome wasn’t built in a day, yes but they were laying bricks every hour”
Have a good one friends!
