The Strange Concept of “Want”
What actually is the emotion of “want”?
Like have you ever actually listened to your brain “want” something?
Is it triggered by problems?
Led by Solutions?
Optimizing?
Newer?
Better?
Faster?
Safer?
There will always be “want” in our bones
but most of the time our brain just decides what our want is pointed at next, would you agree?
New car?
Health?
New golf club?
Jewelry?
New dress?
New purse
New shoes
Like we’re fine with what we have, we’re safe, it solved a problem for us
and yet when we want..
It’s like we all of a sudden feel inferior without the next thing
What happened?
…
On this note, I always try to leave you with some value, so my thinking and gut feeling, is to weaponize WANT for success,
you can optimize to choose to want the beneficial
Not “I want a car”
it’s not strong enough
Wins
Security
Longevity
Security
something like that..
Dialing in your bigger WHY or your deeper want is something we can talk about another time.
Just something to ponder on.
…
When we want, were so quick to sever the ties with what’s currently in our possession
Yet we all want success, wealth, health and happiness but it’s as though we can’t sever this tie with our current life.
It’s like we’re cutting a steel bridge cable with a dull butter knife..
If what’s current feels like home, you’ll never feel the pain of your current
That’s where the promise of the future,
or discomfort in the current has to be so painful, it becomes the only way to grow.
Get uncomfortable with where you’re at..
We only get up and cut the AC on when it gets too hot..
to bring us to “comfortable”
Successful people have a finer tuned version of comfort and so they consistently tune the temperature to their temperature of their “comfort”
$1m in a bank account feels uncomfortable to someone, therefore if it goes south, they’d take necessary action to make it “comfortable”
The reason you struggle to create the life you want, is it’s not painful enough.
You need to convince yourself that the cool 75 degrees of life you’ve been living is just too uncomfortable.
