The Dunning Kruger Effect

perfectly lays out the life cycle of learning,

a new skill,

a new subject,

and / or creating change.

With this diagram you can asses where you are on your timeline of learning,

wether you’re falsely convinced that you’re in a bad place, and you’ll never he good at this or that, or there’s simply too much to learn that you can’t possibly catch up.

or falsely convinced that you know it all and it’s easy, and you either quit because it’s not worth the effort, or you quit because it’s too easy to be worthwhile.

both typically STOP people in the pursuit of extended learning, making them quit.

If you’re frustrated,

Take a look at the chart again and

Ask yourself if you’re at the bottom of that dip

Your confidence is at its lowest,

when you’re at the point PAST the initial learning phase,

once you pass the beginner knowledge.

Be happy! You’ve finally reached the point of learning more than the common man/woman.

You’re at the beginning of your path to mastery!

Past the frustration point, past the exciting part of learning something new.

Ask yourself, if there was a hobby/ interest/ idea, that you got into, and realized,

“there’s more to this than I thought”

and with confidence at an all time low,

just quit.

The opposite is tricky,

The arrogant never really know, when they don’t know, and typically have a hard time admitting it.

So..

If you’re feeling like you’re getting ahead of yourself,

or that things are so incredibly easy,

you say things like “why doesn’t everyone do this?!”

or that you know so much, and have yet to actually produce something into the world,

You may just be really early in the journey, and actually know less than you think you know about what it truly takes to “make it”.

Nowhere am I saying, is it bad to be confident,


all this is, is a question we should all ask ourselves.

A mirror so to speak.

To expose you, to you.

Now don’t let anyone tell you, that your niche is too weird, or too simple even.

The more fine tuned your skill set, the more precise in the value you provide, and to who you provide it to, the more money people will pay for what you do.

Lastly,

Keep an eye out for the people in your circle that either push your confidence down, when you’re learning more and more,

or the people that try to kick you when you when your down, because you’ve surpassed most common knowledge, and they tell you you’ll never be one of those.

Remember it’s the dumbasses that are the most confident

Be careful of those people.

(these are the jackasses that tell you 2 years into what you’re doing, see you and go -

“Oh I could’ve done that”,

“Oh I tried that and it wasn’t for me”,

“Oh yeah I know a ton about that”

-blahblahblah)

But truth be told,

The ones that have years in, and the real experience, have neither a high or low about things.

They don’t need anyone to boost their confidence, or believe that anybody can deteriorate their confidence,

because it simply comes down to how much you know, and how good you are at providing value.
