Why Happiness as a MAN is a BROKEN Metric

I used to measure my quality of life on happiness..

And it only led me to anxiety, depression, overwhelm, loneliness and shame.

If you’re a man who measures your life on “happiness”…

You’ll chase that fleeing feeling until the day you die.

A Man’s life (which I’m learning) isn’t to be defined by happiness,

That’s for women, children and dogs.

Instead of measuring my life with,

“How happy am I?”

The metric I’ve learned to measure my life, is

“Am I PROUD of myself?”

As a man, your enjoyment of life is measured by your Pride in yourself.

Doing things you didn’t think you were capable of,

Solving problems you thought were unsolvable,

Growing,

Expanding your capabilities,

Your competence,

Answering the question “Am I proud of myself” will indirectly influence your emotions, mentality, and “happiness”

A man’s life journey is tiny moments of gratitude, joy or happiness, immediately followed by hard work, deep work, and fires you put out.

You may wish it was different, (I do at times), but if you measure your life against happiness, you’ll quickly become the man who -

Over eats

Over sleeps

Over drinks

Seeks validation

Seeks approval

& fill your voids with acquiring meaningless things you treat as objects.

There will always be the next thing out there that convinces you it will be the next hit of “happiness”

But if you measure yourself day to day, against being proud of yourself,

You’ll do, act and believe in alignment with the highest version of yourself.

In turn,

You’ll  build a life that gives you more moments of happiness as a bi-product.
