Why Some Connections Drain You
So this past weekend me and Jeree, got to attend a housewarming party at my boss’ and his wife’s newly renovated home.
It was filled with team members, high level CEO’s and executives and authorities amongst varying industries.
All to celebrate with a good time through connections, food and drinks, and cookies.. Lots of cookies.
A little background on Jeree is that she’s typically very quiet and to herself, she shows her true self to a select group and reads into the energy quickly and definitely.
And that got us talking about how, at this particular outing, she felt energized and open to all and willing to initiate connections. A total 180 of her typical nature.
But we found out through a DISC assessment test, a personality questionnaire we take at HQ to help us collaborate and communicate effectively, that her “bird” identity is that of The Eagle.
The total opposite of what she typically perceives.
Theres 4 birds each displaying and thinking a certain cadence, an Eagle shows leadership, visionary qualities and is inclusive and engaging. An Owl evokes a quiet nature that is analytical. A Parrot is high energy and typically the life of the party. A Dove shows compassion and values connection and relationships.
Seeing Jeree in this light was totally eye opening to both of us, and we came to this conclusion as to why.
The whole Bird assessment isn’t to shut the door to your personality, the goal is to ultimately be a chameleon able to shift amongst the birds when necessary. But this takes repetitions and practice just like a muscle.
Similar to working out and exercising, in the beginning we feel more drained or exhausted from exercising birds that are not our natural way.
And that’s due to your surrounding, placing yourself in groups that force you into a energy that’s not natural for you.
Some of you are naturally born leaders, naturally eccentric and energizing, but you let your friend group shape you to being quiet, and to yourself. Some of you are smart and analytical, but your peers put you out to be the wreck less type and you conform.
Most experience constant fatigue, simply from being in surroundings where your natural bird can never spread its wings and fly.
This explains why you always feel drained, fatigued, and low from hanging around the people you know may not be right for you.
Not saying to drop your friends,
Either elevate your group,
Or fly higher and build a group of others wanting to fly high as well.
This explains Jeree, she felt and energy she’s never felt because it’s being around honest, ambitious people that allowed her to be herself.
Is there an energy you’re leaving locked inside?
Go and find the right people that build you up to be your best
