Why We Should Value Temporary Things
Imagine you buy your loved one a bouquet of flowers.
The plastic ones.
Thinking to yourself, “these will last forever!”
How would your lover respond?
“He probably doesn’t love me,
Couldn’t bother to get the real ones”
Now you feel like a bad gifter, she feels unappreciated..
And you’re still confused in thinking “I got these because they’ll last!”
Here’s the kicker,
The very fact that flowers die, is the very reason why they have meaning as a gift ❤️
You’re handed flowers knowing they will die in 7 days,
You’re gonna pay attention to them.
You’re gonna smell them.
You’re gonna make sure you change the water and trim the stems.
You’re gonna put them in a central place, so that not only you adore them, but so does everybody else.
You’re gonna celebrate those flowers, while they’re alive.
Because the day will come very quickly that they’ll die.
You will even nurture them through, as the neck weakens, as the pedals begin to fall.
You might prop them up to maintain.
We are no different than flowers.
Whether it’s a relationship, friendship, a career path or life itself.
We’re not here for long.
So in our very nature, we can adore, we can love, we can get to action, we can celebrate, knowing one day it’ll all reach an end.
So take this as a friendly reminder,
Live.
Do some main character shit.
Tell your loved ones how much you appreciate them.
Speak your truth.
Try that new thing.
Start that venture.
Breathe the air.
Watch the sunset.
